I’ve been using the same unstructured, caramel-colored leather backpack for the past four years. It’s an incredibly well-made bag that was passed down to me by mother but, after continuous daily use, it’s starting to show extreme signs of wear and tear. So, I decided it was time to purchase a new backpack. I knew I wanted something stylish, structured, and ethically made.
In the past, I never gave much thought as to how well-made my clothing was. I never thought about question such as: At what cost was this produced, or more like, at whose cost was my clothing produced? However, documentaries such as The True Cost and Swoosh! Inside Nike! have made me reconsider where I purchase my clothing. I now consider purchasing ethically made clothing a social and environmental responsibility.
While on the hunt for a new backpack, I came across a few ethical options:
