Sometimes I get a little tired of my surroundings, despite living in an ever-changing city. Whenever I find myself in this bind, one activity always cures my predicament: rearranging the furniture and artwork in my apartment, especially in my bedroom. While my room is way too small to move the furniture around, thanks to the teeny tiny size of NYC apartments, I’ll rotate posters, books, and other knickknacks instead. I often notice that when I make adjustments to my room, such as focusing on a particular piece of artwork or adding pops of color, I start to see the city in the same way; great pieces of art are more vibrant at the museums and the murals and graffiti art on city buildings stand out more.
I recently discovered that making stylistic changes to my room cures my boredom blues, after realizing how drawn I am to art and design. Suddenly my obsession with HGTV all made sense. Hence, the ability to manipulate the colors and textures in a room to reflect how I feel (or want to feel) has become one of my favorite creative outlets. I don’t claim to be an expert when it comes to interior design, so today I thought I’d share some of the images and websites I look at when I need a little inspiration.
My habitual redecorating has almost become a meditative process. I’ve come to understand how important it is to refresh the physical space around me as well as my mindset. I’ve found that when my head is clear, so is my outlook on the city around me.
(And in case you were wondering: yes, I really do shamelessly watch hours of House Hunters International and Property Brothers.)

For those of you who can move their furniture around, I found these two articles (here and here) that discuss the practice of Feng Shui and how to utilize it in your bedroom. Do you think there is a method to this madness?
