Why are six paragraphs outlining every thread, button, and notched collar of Bill Clinton's DNC outfit noteworthy? Because it's unheard of. An article detailing a man's sartorial choices comes across as comical, even, as though this article could've been from the Onion. It's not. Yet this is what is written about women in the public eye every day, instead their ideas or accomplishments. I look forward to the day Hillary's outfits will be as lackluster as Angela Merkel's. Then we will know we've recognized her leadership, not her lapels.
"We’ve yet to read an interview with the person who styled Bill’s silver locks for last night’s DNC appearance, or even see a brief in Women’s Wear Daily or GQ crediting the designers who dressed him for the occasion. Did he buy his suit online, like Melania Trump’s Net-a-Porter-purchased Roksanda last week? Did he go to a store? Work directly with a designer? We just don’t know, which means it’s going to be really difficult for this particular navy suit to sell out, as so many of the dresses worn by Michelle Obama have over the past eight years. Was it Hickey Freeman? Hart Schaffner Marx? Again, we just don’t know.
I hope this article encourages you to consider the importance of feminism and women's portrayal in politics." (Jenny Avins, on Quartz)
Echoing the message, President Obama wrote an article on feminism just yesterday and I loved what he had to say about raising daughters to see their father as a feminist.
On a different political note, I hope you'll take the time to vote in the upcoming election. If you haven't yet registered to vote, there's still time to do so here! Plus, registering is simple (see below):
